Dog Droppings and Cleanup

Every pet owner knows they have a responsibility to clean up after their pet.  The HOA tries to make it easier to do this by providing Dogi Pot dispensers at the entrances to every park and green space in Skyview Ranch.

The HOA purchased dozens of these waste bag dispensers, paid to have them installed, and purchases the refills regularly to keep them useable.

Users are asked to take only the bag they need at the time.

All the pet owner has to do is dispose of the bag and waste responsibly in a nearby garbage bin, or take it home to dispose of.

Leaving the bag and waste on the ground does not finish the task.

DOGIPOT DISPENSERS MAP

Dogipot dispensers are labelled as yellow rectangles on the map.

This is our neighbourhood.  It should not look like this.  The Home Owners Association and the City of Calgary are not responsible for cleaning it up.  It is up to the pet owners.

Six of the bag dispensers also have a garbage bin immediately below, making it super easy to dispose of the bagged waste. The HOA contractor will empty these bins as part of their contract.  All other dispensers are located beside large garbage bins where the bag, tied shut, must be dropped in the bin instead of leaving it on the ground.

City bylaws state specifically:

  • Dog owners must ensure that they bring along a suitable means to pick up feces.
  • Dog owners must pick up all feces produced by their dog both on and off their property.
  • The pet owner is responsible for disposing the bag and waste properly.
  • Failing to pickup after a pet can incur a $500 dollar fine.

Leaving bagged pet waste on the ground does not finish the task and is considered littering under city bylaws, as well as a disgrace to our community.
