Skyview Ranch now has 44 large pots and planters spread out on the various parks, gardens, green spaces and traffic circles of the community. These add much beauty to our area from spring through summer and into autumn months.
The first eight (8) of these were provided by the City of Calgary Parks Department. During hot weather in past years this meant hauling water and applying it to the planters on a daily basis.
Now a further 36 have been installed by the Home Owners Association. In an effort to make Skyview Ranch more economical and ecological, the older planters are being replaced by new types which store water in the base. This irrigate the plants automatically, requiring the contractor to fill them weekly or even less often, meaning less attendance in hot weather.
In spring many thousands of annual flowers are planted in the large pots throughout Skyview Ranch. In 2025 this involved 162 pots of flowers and 65 ornamentals.
Maintaining all of these planters requires the attention of a landscaping contractor, an expense covered by HOA funding.
Many parks and green spaces also contain shrubbery gardens. These become habitat for small birds. At times these gardens require new mulch or weed control. This also requires funds from the annual HOA budget.
In October comes the major job of removing the faded plants and getting the soil ready for winter.
When a planter is damaged, the HOA is responsible for replacing it, through insurance or directly from funds in the annual budget.
Beauty that everyone can enjoy, supported by every homeowner through the annual fee.
